The Ultra Psycho X is a widely popular bag, continuing Ultra’s trend of putting materials that Ultra has brought into the spotlight. The slow side is one of the most utilized materials in the game. In fact, this material combo is widely used by manufacturers, pairing the Surefire/Game Changer fast side with the “Psycho X” (BG Assassin slow). Check my Cornhole bags review tab, and you’ll find a large list of bags under the “Psycho X variants.” Many bags use this material combo, But like the Viper and Viper R, the question remains—do these bags truly stand out, or are they just another Ultra clone?

Performance and Feel
I’ve found no variant that plays as well as the Viper R. Even the mock versions don’t quite compare. With the Psycho X, I feel similarly. Personally, I wasn’t a huge fan of this bag. The Buffalo Hype bag, which uses the same materials, topped my leaderboard for some time—it’s rounder, fuller, and felt better in hand. In comparison, the Psycho X felt thinner, flatter, and more squared. They were also slower for me, likely due to being more broken-in.
This bag has a medium fill, a touch thinner than most Ultra bags, and reminded me of a regular Viper. They play straight, but I struggled to cut them. They feature a large template, which is common with Ultra bags. The slow side played around a 5 for me but can vary based on conditions. Humidity especially slows this bag down, making it nearly unplayable, similar to Surefire bags. In dry conditions, they play well, but in humidity, they can play more like a 3/6 rather than the intended 5/8.
Humidity and Conditions
This material, while good indoors, can become sticky and sluggish in humidity, and it tends to kick if you don’t throw a flat bag. While the Psycho X is more floppy and could be more forgiving in damp conditions, I still wouldn’t recommend them for humid environments. When wet, the speed slows down significantly, and they lose the intended performance.
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, the Psycho X didn’t impress me. With so many manufacturers offering this same material combo, I found better options in the Buffalo Hype, Local Cougar, BG Assassin, Blast Griffin, and Swag Fantasy—all of which are more affordable. Ultra still holds its reputation, though. Their bag quality and closing stitch are elite, and many players remain loyal. I personally love my Viper Rs, but the Psycho X just wasn’t for me. I ended up selling them locally to a player who went on to win his division throwing them.
As I’ve often said, “just because it isn’t for me, doesn’t mean it isn’t for you.”
